From STL or STEP to a Finished Part: 3D Printing File and Cost Guide for Bahrain

A useful 3D-printing quote starts with more than a file attachment. The supplier needs to understand what the part must do, how large it should be, how many are required and which surfaces or dimensions matter. This guide explains what to send TECHTUKE, what makes a model printable and why a universal “price per gram” can be misleading.

Which file should you send?

If you do not have a printable file, use the CAD / file enquiry and explain what must be created or changed. Do not send a file you do not own or have permission to reproduce.

The minimum project brief

  • Purpose: decorative display, fit check, functional prototype, enclosure, jig, replacement or other use.
  • Final dimensions: include the unit and one known reference measurement.
  • Quantity: prototype quantity and possible later batch are different planning questions.
  • Material or requirement: flexibility, heat exposure, outdoor use, visual finish or another real constraint.
  • Critical features: mating faces, holes, threads, clips, snap fits, text and visible surfaces.
  • Finish: as-printed, support removal, sanding, assembly, primer or another agreed treatment.
  • Deadline and Bahrain delivery area: state when the part is needed and whether pickup or delivery is required.

Upload these details through the custom-print request. Its tolerance, finish, layer-height and infill fields help define the intended result, but the file still needs technical review.

What makes a file printable?

Scale and units

A model that arrives at 10 mm instead of 100 mm can still look correct on screen. State the final overall dimension. For a mating part, include the dimension that must be checked after printing.

Wall thickness and small features

Walls, pins, embossed text and gaps must be large enough for the selected nozzle, layer height, resin process and orientation. A visually closed model is not automatically manufacturable at every scale.

Overhangs and supports

Support material adds machine time, material and removal work. It can also leave marks. Orientation is therefore a quality and cost decision, not simply an automatic slicer setting.

Tolerances and assemblies

A nominally exact CAD fit can bind after printing. State which parts mate, whether movement is required and which dimension is critical. A sample or tolerance test may be more economical than reprinting a full assembly.

Mesh quality

Open edges, inverted faces, intersecting bodies and accidental internal geometry can produce unpredictable toolpaths. Mesh repair may be straightforward or may change the intended shape, so approval is required when the repair is material.

What affects a 3D-printing price?

  1. Material: type, colour, required condition and actual consumed material.
  2. Machine time: layer height, speed limits, temperature changes and occupied machine time.
  3. Supports and waste: support structures, purge, rafts and process-specific consumables.
  4. Setup and risk: orientation, slicing, calibration, fragile geometry and the consequence of a late failure.
  5. Quantity: repeat units can reduce some setup work but still use machine capacity and inspection time.
  6. Post-processing: support removal, washing, curing, sanding, fitting, assembly or finishing.
  7. Inspection: visual checks, measurement, test fit or documented acceptance steps.
  8. Delivery: packaging, pickup and delivery requirements across Bahrain.

This is why TECHTUKE’s online estimator is a planning guide, not a binding quotation. Weight is useful, but two parts with the same finished weight can have very different support, time, risk and finishing requirements.

Lead-time factors

  • Whether the file is ready or requires CAD or mesh work
  • Whether a sample must be approved before the full quantity
  • Machine and material availability
  • Print duration and safe cooling, washing or curing steps
  • Required finishing and inspection
  • Packaging and Bahrain delivery timing

Do not promise a deadline before the file, material and quantity are reviewed. If the part is urgent, state the actual use-by time and whether a partial delivery or first sample would help.
